A practical guide
Choose values and decide whether fields stay editable.
- Choose a PDF with supported existing fields and inspect the field list.
- Enter text or choose available checkbox, dropdown or radio values.
- Choose whether to flatten the fields, create the copy, then inspect each value.
Try this example
Complete the existing fields in a one-page form and review the output. Keep fields editable when you expect follow-up corrections.
Before
- Reference: empty
After
- Reference: A123
Before you start: This fills supported existing fields; it does not create fields. XFA, signature fields and scripts are unsupported, and field appearances may change. Flatten only when a fixed visual copy is intended.
Flatten a checked form copyQuestions and answers
- How do I fill in a PDF form without Adobe?
- Add the PDF and the tool lists its form fields. Type text or choose checkbox, dropdown and radio values, then save the copy. It all happens in your browser, and the file stays on your device.
- Can I fill a PDF that has no fillable fields?
- No. The tool fills existing form fields and does not create new ones.
- What is the difference between editable and flattened?
- An editable copy keeps the fields, so you or the recipient can change values later. A flattened copy makes the values part of the page, so choose it only when you want a fixed visual copy.
- Which field types are supported?
- Plain single-line text, checkbox, dropdown and radio fields, up to 100 fields. XFA forms, signature fields and scripts are not supported.
- Will the form look exactly the same after filling?
- Not always. Field appearances may change, so open the saved copy and read each value before you send it.
If it did not work
- The file is refused
- Forms are limited to 10 MiB and 200 pages. Signed PDFs and XFA forms are refused too. Use a smaller copy, or an unsigned AcroForm version of the form.
- No fields are listed
- The PDF may have no fields, or only fields of an unsupported type. This tool does not create fields, so use Create PDF Form first, or place text with Add Text to PDF.
- A field is missing from the list
- It is probably a type this tool does not support, such as a signature field or a scripted field.
- A value looks different in the saved copy
- Read the form fields again on the result. Correct the input and save a new copy from the original.
- The recipient can still edit the values
- The fields were kept editable. Fill the form again and flatten the fields, or run the result through Flatten PDF Form.
