Add header and footer text to PDF pages with page numbers inserted where you type {page} and {pages}.

A practical guide

Type the text, get the labelled copy.

  1. Choose one PDF and enter header text, footer text or both.
  2. Use {page} and {pages} for numbers, and set alignment, font size and pages.
  3. Create the copy and check the top and bottom margins of several pages.

Before you start: Text uses a standard Latin font (Windows-1252); Cyrillic, Greek, CJK and emoji are rejected. It is drawn over existing content near the edges, may overlap it and can invalidate digital signatures.

Add page numbers only
What you get

Add a line of header and/or footer text to all or selected pages, with {page} and {pages} placeholders. Standard font: Latin (Windows-1252) characters only.

Limits and important details

Bates: one PDF up to 10 MiB/200 pages, 40 MiB output, printable ASCII prefix up to 24 characters and suffix up to 16, 1-9 minimum digits and counters up to 999999999. This is not multi-file batch numbering or a certified legal workflow. Numbering adds text; it does not change PDF page labels or remove existing numbers. Overlays may cover content. Pages smaller than 72 pt and unsupported rotations are rejected.
